Government announce new solar install grant from 1st August.

The Government has announced a new grant scheme for households to support the take up of renewable heat installations.

Called the Renewable Heat Premium Payment scheme, 25,000 households are expected to benefit from a share of £15 million.

The grants will be issued on a first come, first served basis, although households will have to show they've already taken basic energy efficiency measures.

Whilst the bulk of the grants are aimed at those homes that don't have mains gas heating, a £300 grant is available for Solar Hot Water installations regardless of the present heating system in use.

Other grants include:

£1250 towards Ground Source Heat Pumps, £950 towards Biomass boilers and £850 towards Air Source Heat Pumps, where no mains gas heating systems currently exist.

*Applications can be made via the Energy Saving Trust or by calling 0800 512 012.

A separate application system for landlords is yet to be announced, but £3 million of the £15 million available has been set aside for improving social housing.

Lucky participants will be expected to take part in a feedback system, the results of which will help the Government get first-hand data on the savings that individual systems combined with property types, make. This data will go towards helping the Government formulate the Renewable Heat Incentive's (launch time October 2012).
