Nearly two thirds of Britain's homeowners are planning home improvements this year.

Amongst those planning to improve, 63% are perusing paint charts, whilst a third are planning something a little more involved with a new bathroom or kitchen top of the list.

Nearly a fifth are planning even bigger projects like loft conversions and extensions.

As we revealed some months ago, when money gets short, there's a temptation to attempt more home improvements yourself, however, the figures are not in your favour with over 24% of those surveyed revealing a DIY disaster in the last 12 months, which on average cost £145 to put right. Leaking plumbing, ill-fitted kitchen units and dangerous electrics to name but a few.

No wonder 58% of women wouldn't trust their partner to tackle anything more complicated than hanging a picture.

Sorry guys - but at least you should be able to impress your partner by having a rough idea of the costs involved, simply by using the 'Quoter family of websites'. Instant online quotes for everything from Bathrooms and Kitchens to Conversions and Extensions, Double glazing to Solar Panels.
